|Barkha Herman is the founder and the inspiration behind Her Rights. Barkha was born and raised in Mumbai, India, and studied Hotel Management, becoming one of the first female chefs in the country. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 21, and has since then acquired a degree in Computer Science from Florida Atlantic University. She has been working in the Computer Science field ever since. Barkha is the co-founder of her current business, Artemis Technologies, through which she acquired the software company CarTHINK in early 2014.
Barkha has been a life long libertarian, having read Ayn Rand at the age of 16, and transitionaing from objectivism to classical liberal ideas over time. Barkha Hosts a monthly "Mises Circle" event at her house, inviting many libertarian speakers. In early 2013, Barkha attended a seminar offered by The Independent Women’s Forum titled “Women in the Wilderness”. They discussed the voting gap amongst women, and the question that was brought up was “How to show them (women) the strengths of free market prosperity?” Some of the questions asked during the presentation made it clear that there is an outreach gap when it comes to women in the pro liberty movement. Her Rights, Inc. was thought up over lunch with friends. Pilots for First Shots (free gun training for women) were held in March 2013, and the company was incorporated on April 9th, 2013.

The Julia Entrepreneurship club for girls was launched in the Fall of 2014 as a pilot program. The name came from a campaign run by the Obama re-election campaign which depicted Julia relying on the Government from cradle to grave. Barkha is married, with two kids, and runs her business and her non-profit from Pompano Beach, Florida. In her free time, she teaches vegan cooking classes and runs a vegan website, vegan42.com.
